 “I LOVE STORIES.”

I have always loved stories. Especially first person narratives. As a child, my favourite moment of the day was bedtime story. Safely covered under the blanket in my bunk bed, surrounded by my stuffed animals, I could not wait for the book to be openend.

While closing my eyes, I traveled into the lives of others. Mesmerised by the adventures of my favourite characters, I discovered new worlds within myself.

From a young age I was also captured by my fathers eye. Being in front of his analogue camera always felt like home. Posing in his handmade dresses helped me to become the characters I fantasised about.

During my teens I became fascinated by making my own photographic and video self-portraits. Night after night I took pictures of myself and my many different haircuts.

“Through the lens I learned to capture, edit and re-edit my (self)-image.”

My need for personal discovery let me in my early twenties to travel the world. During my time abroad I met many people and listened to their life stories. The power of personal storytelling and vulnerability became apparent to me. While making short films I learned that transformation comes from within.

In my late twenties I returned to my city of birth. Longing for my own space, place and identity I decided to explore my family history. By developing a visual, sensory and somatic language for the family stories,

“I set out on a journey to better understand the ones that came before me.”

By playing the roles of my family I flirted with the sins of my (un)lived and (un)experienced ancestry. Bringing lightness, playfulness and warmth to these hidden stories, but also listening to the unexpressed pain and grief, helped me to find my roots. During this research, the vital importance of embodied storytelling became apparent to me.

Now in my thirties my fascination and passion for embodied storytelling has only grown stronger and my heart had only grown fonder for acting and performing. It brings me tremendous joy to write, create, visualise and transform into interesting, living, breathing characters that are unique and relatable. A part of every persona I bring to life lives inside of me, they are living stories that can open a dialogue and they teach me what it is to be human.

At the moment I live in my creative atelier in Utrecht, The Netherlands, with my cat and bundle of joy, Luna.
