Director’s Statement                  (Frouwke Florentina)

In CUT I have tried to give a face to the feelings of fear. I am seeking to communicate that universal feeling of isolation and loss.

Beth is a character who has come to me, through my own difficult circumstances. The insight I gained from the process of overcoming these challenges have allowed me to create a character and story that I feel have immense depth and emotional possibilities.

I intend for CUT to emerge the audience into the dark world of grief, were reality and fantasy are blurred. Through confrontation with Beth’s experience, the audience will share in the process of overcoming loss. Cut is a Window into the world of Darkness. Beth’s world is intricate, obscure and oppressively lonely, yet filled with wonderment and beautiful surreality.

Producer’s Statement                     (David Morris)

When I first read Frouwke’s script I was excited, she really has a knack for exploring dark subject matter in a way that is both beautifully touching and oddly funny.

I think finding humour in tragedy is such an important trait and it’s a quality that really speaks to an audience. This film is going to catapult you into this character’s mind and keep you guessing as her reality begins to crumble.

Another element of this film is it’s representation of the ageing woman of today. A woman in her late-50s and 60s is no longer the blue-rinsed hair, doily loving, english-tea sipping representation of the past. Beth is a modern woman who has lost her connection to the outside world. The audience will relate to her, because they know her.
